Off and running on a "spur of the moment" trip to beloved San Diego! Fueled by a "ganga" rate on a hotel on PriceLine, the "off on disability" hubby and I packed the HHR and ran away for four days! After all, that torn quad muscle can heal just as well at the beach. Right?
Up to Long Beach for the CD drop performance of Zee Avi at Fingerprints! SO great to meet her in person and, lo and behold, the unexpected and added pleasure of seeing Harris Pitman! He will be backing her, on bass, for her promotion tour! We insiders know him as Matt Costa's bass player and did I mention, what a lovely man he is? If you get the pleasure of seeing Zee on tour, be sure to say to Harris for me!
The primary reason for the trip was to jump at the rare opportunity to see Speechwriters LLC live! Well, it was half of Speechwriters, Dave Lowensohn, but well worth the journey! Somebody get that Micha back to the states, dammit. Dave performed at the small but great sounding Lestats on Adams St. REALLY nice sound, fabulous line up, and not enough Dave. My hubby was quite taken with the somewhat moody sound of Brett Bixby and we happily purchased his CD for a whopping $10. I was over scooping up everything Dave of Speechwriters had for sale and getting his autograph on it all. Grandma groupy. Dave, we really enjoyed you and hope you will someday rethink the fear of AZ and come to Tucson for a show!
Rest of trip rounded out by shopping at IKEA, visiting the beach and watching hubby eat his way through Ocean Beach. This was topped off by a Wednesday visit to the infamous farmer's market and the carnal pleasures of a gi-normous burger at Hodad's on Newport St. It was all it was cracked up to be! Excellent!
After a long, sad, six hour drive back to Tucson we are back to business. That means I am behind on my jewelry making and Bob is watching TV. Sigh!
